The Galle Experience Volunteer Sri Lanka project is run by Madawa Galagedara (the Project Manager) to encourage volunteers to come to help the poor people of Sri Lanka. This project assists volunteers to work in many different areas such as Children Orphanage, Adults Homes, Turtle Conservation project, Elephant orphanage etc.
People with almost every skill are welcome to volunteer in Sri Lanka. Age ranging from 17 to 70, provided that the health condition is good and whatever the skill you possess, they can be of immense help to improve the living condition of all the aspects of the society.
The sole purpose of this organization’s volunteer projects is to grant the volunteering service for the needs of Sri Lankan people to uplift their living conditions and even to protect endangered animals. In order to fulfill that we have designed volunteer projects to attract volunteers from all over the world and volunteers with in the country who has the ability to participate in our projects. Whatever the skill you may possess, the Galle Experience volunteer project will find you a place where you fit in.
By engaging in voluntary work you may not just assist to alleviate poverty and uplift the livelihood of people of this beautiful island, but also you can render your yeoman service to educate and encourage the people to protect the environment and educate them on sustainable way of living the life.
The Galle experience volunteer Sri Lanka Projects provide you the opportunity to work with the Orphans, the Street Children and hearing impaired children, children with learning difficulties, Adults home, nursery schools, Differently able people, Turtle conservation projects depending on each volunteer’s liking and skills and consent.
Here’s the standard list of volunteer assignments:
• Teaching and working with children at local nursery schools
• Teaching and working in the children’s day care center
• Working in the Elders Home
• Teaching and working in the Home for Differently abled Children
• Working and teaching in the Children’s Orphanage
• Volunteering in Turtle Conservation projects
A minimum period of 2 weeks are required to make sure that you have a worthwhile volunteer experience and a maximum period of 3 months.
Cost in US$ $600 for 4 weeks
3 meals a day, single double room

Please note that incomplete weeks will count as one whole week. For example 2 weeks and 3 days, for the purposes of payment will be counted as 3 weeks and volunteers will be expected to pay accordingly. We recommend you to have a sightseeing experience of tropical Sri Lanka during volunteer in Galle and if u could do it either at the start of the volunteer programme or at the end of the programme would be much appreciated. Having said that you can discover Galle and close destinations during the weekends. The project Manager Madawa will assist you in all your travel planning.

Whilst you are at the project, our project Managers are constantly available to assist you with any fine tuning of your placement or even a different role, for an instance when you are doing the same task it might be bit monotonous, so that changing of the place of work is possible.
Do I need to have any qualifications?
Age 17 -70
Qualifications will not be required for your volunteer services.
How to make your volunteer experience a memorable one?
If at any time if you find that your volunteering experience does not go on to your expectations, take a minute to talk to the Project manager without leaving it to the last minute. Don’t take it as a pressure at any given time; we are at your service.
Be open, empathetic and patient.
What is the daily routine of a Volunteer?
This schedule will give you a clear indication of a typical routine of a volunteer
Breakfast - 07-30am- 08.30am
Lunch - 12.30pm – 01.30pm
Dinner – 07.30pm – 08.30pm
Please make sure that if you have any dining choices, for an instance if you are a vegetarian, let the project manager know so that necessary arrangement could be made.
How do I get from the airport to the Volunteer Accommodation?
We can provide you an Airport Pick up at the cost of 80$, if not you can choose the public transport and which is frequently available, It is only a short distance from the Galle town which is the main city of south of Sri Lanka.
What should I bring?
All volunteers are required to furnish the travel and Medical insurance up on arrival at the volunteer accommodation.
One copy of your Passport
It is advisable to buy a Sri Lankan SIM card as it will be of great assistance to you while you are in Sri Lanka; Unlocking of some of the phones will be required so that please check that before you leave from your country.
If you travel to the middle of the country a jacket may be required as it is colder in the mountains
Code of Conduct and Cultural Norms
Sri Lanka is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country having different mannerisms and socio cultural practices. The Sinhala, Muslim, Burger and Tamil races live all over the country, in varied proportions. Religions practiced are Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Islam. It is good to be sensitive to these differences and experience the diversity of each.
What to wear?
Women should wear clothing that covers their shoulders and reaches to their knees. T shirts are quite acceptable as are trousers and skirts or sarongs.
Men in Sri Lanka wear trousers. You will not offend anyone by wearing shorts but you will be treated with more respect if you dress as other adult men do.
General Kissing, hugging and public demonstration of intimate behavior is considered impolite. Please be respectful and mindful of the social environment.
If you wish to bring any invitees to your accommodation, please consult the project manager and make necessary arrangements.
Punctuality and reliability is extremely important, In case if the volunteer is unable to take part in scheduled programme, any day during the period, please let the project managers know about it.
